It shares the Britannia design and, since 2021, the same security features as the gold coin, including a latent image that changes as the coin is tilted. The coin measures 38.61 mm across.
Silver costs far less per ounce than gold, so it lets you hold a larger quantity of precious metal for the same budget. Silver coins from national mints carry a higher premium than silver bars, but they are widely recognised and easy to sell one coin at a time.
The 1 oz Silver Britannia is priced live from the silver spot price plus a stated premium of 22%, in any of six currencies. At checkout your price is locked for 10 minutes while you confirm your order. You then pay by bank transfer (UK Faster Payments, SEPA or SWIFT), quoting your order number. Any VAT for your delivery country is shown before you order.
Since 2013 the Silver Britannia has been struck in 999 fine silver. Earlier Britannias used 958 'Britannia silver'.
Yes. Since 2021 it has carried the same security features as the gold coin, including a latent image that switches between a trident and a padlock as you tilt it.
Minting, packing and shipping cost about the same per coin for silver and gold, but an ounce of silver is worth far less. Those costs therefore make up a larger share of a silver coin's price.
Often called milk spots, they are cosmetic marks linked to the minting process. They don't affect the silver content and matter mainly to collectors rather than bullion buyers.
